Herb Schwartz, PhD
President & CEO, Founder
Dr. Herb Schwartz serves as the CEO, President, and founder of BioPoly LLC, bringing 39 years of industry experience, including over 30 years dedicated to orthopedics. He also is BioPoly’s Board Chairman. Under his leadership, the BioPoly team has successfully developed, manufactured, and marketed innovative orthopedic implants that have been utilized in surgeries across Europe and the United States since 2012.
Having led the team to achieve CE mark on 4 product lines and FDA clearance on 4 additional product lines, many patients have received the benefit of Dr. Schwartz’s technologies. He holds more than 50 U.S. patents and has contributed to the orthopedics field through journal publications, abstracts, and co-authorship of a book chapter on biomaterials.
Before entering into orthopedics, Dr. Schwartz gained valuable engineering and manufacturing expertise as a design engineer at GE Aviation in Cincinnati. He then began his orthopedics journey at DePuy Synthes, contributing to orthobiologics research, namely tissue engineering research involving cartilage, ligaments, and tendons.
He later ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Schwartz Biomedical and BioDuct, the latter of which was acquired by a major orthopedic company. His passion lies in advancing technologies that enhance people’s quality of life. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and went on to complete a Masters and Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
He leads BioPoly with Sheila, his wife of 36 years, and he is the proud father of two daughters, two sons-in-law, and grandfather to two grandsons. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and close friends, building projects, and continuing his work on life-enhancing technologies.
