Ryan Schlotterback

President &
CEO

Ryan Schlotterback is President and Chief Executive Officer of BioPoly LLC. He has spent 20+ years in the orthopedic industry, with experience in a variety of roles including executive management responsibilities for product development, commercialization, and business development. Prior to joining BioPoly, Mr. Schlotterback spent time at Zimmer, Tornier, and most recently spent 8 years with Nextremity Solutions playing a key role in the strategic direction of the company and ultimate acquisition by Medartis AG. Mr. Schlotterback has a track record of team building and innovation including 27+ patents issued or currently in prosecution. Mr. Schlotterback received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA in Applied Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Herb Schwartz

CTO, Chairman of the Board, & Founder

Herb Schwartz is Chief Technology Officer, Chairman of the Board, and founder of BioPoly LLC. His career spans over 30 years of industry experience with 25 years in orthopaedics. Herb has led the BioPoly team to develop, manufacture, and market innovative orthopaedic implants that have been used in surgery since 2012 in Europe with plans to bring the technology to the US as well.  Herb began his orthopaedic career at DePuy Synthes, working in orthobiologics research. After which he left to venture out on his own and formed Schwartz Biomedical LLC and BioDuct LLC which was sold to one of the major orthopaedic companies.  He enjoys working on technologies that ultimately help improve people’s quality of life. 

Prior to his orthopaedic experience, Herb spent a number of years as a design engineer for GE Aviation in Cincinnati gaining valuable fundamental engineering and manufacturing experience.  He is named inventor on more than 40 issued US patents and many more pending patents.  He has published in the field of orthopaedics, with over 20 journal publications and abstracts and co-author of a book chapter on biomaterials.

Herb graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently obtained an MS and Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.  He has been married to his wife, Sheila, for 30 years and has two daughters.  Herb enjoys time with family and friends, construction projects, wine, and work. 

Sheila Schwartz

COO &
Founder

Sheila Schwartz graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and has been working in the medical field for over 30 years. She currently works as Chief Operating Officer and founder for BioPoly, LLC. She is directly responsible for Manufacturing, Quality Management, and Regulatory Affairs. She also leads and manages Human Resources and Accounting. She ensures that the President/CEO’s vision is focused and executed efficiently, timely, and cost-effectively.

Prior to BioPoly, she accrued 10 years of management experience with Walgreens where she was responsible for all aspects of managing the Pharmacy Department at several Cincinnati locations. She became involved in BioPoly in 2004 first as the “angel” investor while working as a Walgreens Pharmacist as BioPoly was beginning to develop and required capital. She began full time with BioPoly in 2013 to assist in administration and manufacturing. Since then her responsibilities have significantly increased. She is highly motivated and will do whatever it takes to help the company succeed.

Anthony Miniaci, M.D.

Strategic Advisory Board: Medical Director

Anthony Miniaci, MD. FRCSC is on the Strategic Advisory Board as a Medical Director for BioPoly, LLC.  Dr. Miniaci’s responsibilities include providing strategic guidance and leadership for BioPoly in the areas of regulatory, product development and business development. Formerly an orthopaedic surgeon from Toronto, Canada, he was a full professor at the University of Toronto, where he was in charge of Sports Medicine. He was recruited to become the Director of Sports Medicine in 2003 and is currently a staff physician within Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Sports Health.  His specialty interests include shoulder and, knee reconstruction and cartilage resurfacing with a special interest in early treatments for arthritis in young active individuals.  He has developed a number of innovative operative procedures, holds numerous patents and treats patients from around the world.

Dr. Miniaci has also belonged or served on numerous Committees of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine; American Shoulder and Elbow Society; Arthroscopy Association of North America; International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine; and the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. He is currently the Chairman of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Foundation.

Dr. Miniaci has served numerous roles in the world of sports and has been Head Team Physician for the London Tigers Baseball Club , Orthopaedic Consultant to the Toronto Blue Jays,  consultant to the National Hockey League Players Association and served as the Head Team Physician for the Cleveland Browns Football Club from 2003-2009.

Justin J. Kaler

Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Justin J. Kaler is Vice President of Sales & Marketing at BioPoly LLC. He has spent over 14 years in the orthopedic industry with experience in various leadership roles in marketing & sales at Biomet, Stryker, Zimmer Biomet, and most recently Medartis where he was Chief Commercial Officer. Mr. Kaler received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana Tech University and an MBA from Indiana University.
