Founder’s Facts: Partnering with Surgeons to Apply BioPoly® Where It Performs Best

Founder's Facts

Posted by: BioPoly December 19, 2025

In previous Founder’s Facts, we discussed what BioPoly® is and why it behaves more like native cartilage than metal or traditional soft polymer alternatives. Achieving the best clinical outcomes, however, depends not only on material science—but on how the technology is applied.

The BioPoly® material is engineered to function within a naturally lubricated, load-bearing joint and to articulate against healthy cartilage. In this environment, implants manufactured from BioPoly® can fully leverage their hydrophilic, self-lubricating properties to support low-friction motion that closely mimics native cartilage.

As with all orthopedic implants, successful clinical outcomes also depend on stable fixation and restoration of joint biomechanics. BioPoly® implants incorporate these fundamentals through secure bone fixation and surgical instrumentation specifically designed to enable reproducible results.

But engineering and science alone are not enough. Optimal outcomes require collaboration with talented surgeons to refine surgical techniques and define appropriate patient selection criteria. Patient selection with BioPoly® is not about exclusion—it is about partnership. By working closely with surgeons to identify suitable joint conditions and apply sound techniques, BioPoly® delivers predictable, positive outcomes while preserving native tissue.

These same principles extend across joints and indications throughout the body. As BioPoly® implants span from smaller joints—such as the great and lesser toes and the elbow (radial head)—to larger load-bearing joints including the knee and shoulder, our focus has remained consistent: partnering with surgeons to apply the technology where it performs best and delivers the greatest patient benefit.

This partnership—grounded in biomechanics, materials science, and surgical expertise—has supported more than a decade of clinical use and continues to guide the evolution of the BioPoly® implant portfolio.
